What is a Product Transfer?
With a mortgage product transfer you're able to change your current mortgage product to a new one with the same lender. This can cut out the need for solicitors, and often can mean you can take advantage of the new deal straight away unlike a remortgage (which is when you switch your mortgage to a new lender) as a remortgage can take weeks.
A product transfer may be a good alternative to remortgaging, depending on your circumstances – but before making that decision make sure you get in touch as you should always compare if a product transfer is best vs remortgaging to ensure you get the best deal by weighing up all of your options first.
When should I remortgage?
Nearly all mortgages have a headline offer that usually lasts for the first two to five years. Generally you should look to compare product transfer and remortgage options three months before the end of your current introductory mortgage rate. For example, if you have a five-year fixed rate mortgage, you should start shopping around for a new deal three months before the fixed rate ends.
In certain situations it can be advantageous to change mortgage deal within an introductory period, although early repayment fees will normally apply.
How long does it take?
Generally speaking a product transfer can be actioned immediately so you can start taking advantage of potential cost savings right away in time for your next direct debit, depending on when the next payment is due and depending on the lender.
How much does it cost?
We will arrange your product transfer completely free of charge. Depending on the product you choose with your lender, your lender may charge a product fee to access some of their products.
Our job is to find the product that works out the most competitive overall, for example a deal with a low interest rate high fees, could be more expensive overall than a product with a higher interest rate but lower fees, and visa-versa, so we will compare with you the options and help you to decide what is best for your situation.
As you are remaining with your current lender and simply switching to a new deal this omits the need for solicitors, a valuation and other usual checks to save on costs so you should find there are no other fees to pay.
